Frequently Asked Questions

FilaSpool requires iPhone 7 or later for NFC support. It is an iPhone-only app.

In the Print Jobs tab, tap the + button and choose "Import from Screenshot." You'll need to enter an API key for Claude (Anthropic), OpenAI, or Gemini in Settings first. Take a screenshot of your slicer's filament summary and the AI will extract the print details automatically.

API keys are stored only on your device using local storage. They are never sent to FilaSpool's servers (there are none). When you use the AI import feature, your screenshot is sent directly from your device to the AI provider you selected.

FilaSpool supports OpenSpool v1.0 (basic filament info) and OpenPrintTag v1 (full filament + spool data). You can set your preferred write format in Settings → NFC Defaults.

Go to Settings → Export Backup. This creates a JSON file with all your filaments, spools, and print job data that you can save to Files, email to yourself, or share anywhere via the iOS share sheet.

Go to Settings → Import Backup and select your previously exported JSON file. Any filaments, spools, or print jobs not already in your inventory will be added. Existing items are not overwritten.

FilaSpool is currently iPhone-only due to its NFC dependency. iPad support is not planned at this time.

When you delete a print run, FilaSpool automatically adds the grams back to the spools used in that run, up to the spool's original total weight. If your spool weight still looks off, you can manually edit the spool weight from the Spool Detail screen.
